New Digs

November 3, 2010 3 comments

So we’ve been busy bees here at Unbound Books. As of Monday we have successfully moved into our new office space in the Tannery at the Communitech Hub. The office space is amazing with a lot of great facilities that we are hoping to take full advantage of in the upcoming month (and there’s some free coffee to keep us chuggin’ on those late nights).

I thought that I would show you a couple of pictures of us at the oh-so important office. The following picture sizes are based off of company importance.

If you can code, come work for this UW startup

Hi there,

So its been a good 6 months since we first decided on this idea of a cloud based e-book service. We met, we fought, we cried (well…) and built a business model around the idea. Its been a good ride, but the ride is just starting.

Now we are at a point where 2 developers just aren’t enough. We need more coders and designers to come join us and help us take this to the next level. Thats where you come in.

Come join us.

We need people who want to hack together an iPad app, an Android app, a Blackberry app, and a JavaScript (or Flash) app. By the way, the server is in Java and Ruby.

Don’t worry if you are a student with too much homework. If you want to be part of this startup, just email me. I will personally work with you and your schedule to accommodate your workload into the scheme of things. Same goes for working remotely.

OK, now I need to get back to coding.

Favourite Genre

So at UnBounds we have been discussing our favourite genre of books amongst ourselves, and are curious as to what other people really enjoy reading. So I wanted to open it up to everyone and see if we can’t get some feedback from our readers! For those interested I picked mystery.

Hey everyone!

So we are busy at work here at UnBounds with many new ideas and a new focus for our startup. We’ve finalized a business model to start our Alpha version of the service. We believe the first version of our database and service will help us collect users and develop some user review/feedback method for further development for the public release!

Next step for us is to start pitching and advertising our new service! Expect some major updates and links to some exciting product news soon!

Thanks for the read,

So the website is in its development stages as of now. I am attempting to use HTML5 and CS3 for the new layout and have had some success so far. We are attempting to make the website as user friendly as possible by not including anything besides what is essential at the moment, yet this task is easier said than done!
A working page that will interface correctly with the back-end work being done by Naman is probably the most important aspect of the design that needs to be done so far.
I have a quick question for anyone that is reading this blog. I am currently looking at e-reader tech involving how our customers will read our books and how they will interact with the content we provide. For those of you that are interested in e-books, what will your platform for reading these books be?

And here we are

I have spent some very late nights researching the best technologies to support UnBound. Weighing my options for performance, future expansion, and all the little things that Sam and James and Reemah are going to make me put in, I was finally able to decide on the code libraries that will support all the ebooks you (we) are going to be reading.

I know! I know! I know! I know its taking time but I’m just trying to make sure we never have any “due to technical reasons” issues with UnBound once it goes live.

Wish me happy coding! Actually, I’m so pumped to work on this I’ll have fun regardless; but warm wishes and cookies are always appreciated.
